Complications That Can Occur After Spaying Your Female Dog

Spaying your female dog is highly recommended when the time is right. Doing so early on in her young life can actually be very traumatizing to her. Some young dogs do not respond well to surgery. There are documented health risks with spaying a dog too early.
Some of the complications that can occur when spaying your female dog include:
- Hip Dysplasia. Numerous studies in the past few decades have linked hip dysplasia with spaying pets six months old and younger. The painful condition can lead to joint diseases which cause pain and affect mobility.
- Cruciate Ligament Tears. A study of Golden Retrievers found that 8% of the female dogs that were spayed before 12 months old suffered from cranial cruciate ligament rupture. This causes the tibia to continue growing even though it shouldn’t. It makes the lower leg heavier and causes more stress on the cranial cruciate ligament.
- Cancer. Young dogs who were spayed prematurely have a nine times higher risk of hemangiosarcoma than those who remain intact. The study also proved that the dogs were 3.5 times more likely to develop cell cancer as well as 4.3 times more likely to develop lymphoma.
- Separation Anxiety. Going through a traumatic experience such as surgery at an early age can cause your dog to develop separation anxiety. She won’t want to leave your side because of the experience she had.
- Fear Biting, Aggression, and Hyperactivity. If your dog did not display these behaviors before being spayed, she very well can if you spay her too early. You can avoid fear behavior by investing in underwear for dogs in heat.
A dog chastity belt is well worth the money you invest in it. Your dog is a member of your family, and you want to keep her happy and healthy as long as you can. Spaying is an option that you’ll consider once her young body has fully developed. For now, you prefer to Delay Her Spay with dog diapers for heat cycle instead.
